It’s June. Exams breathing down my neck. Assignments pretending they’re my boyfriend.
So I did the mature thing: ran away to the beach (yes, I typed b**ch first)
Why Sanur (if you hate sand but love oceans)
I’m a beach-hater with standards: I dislike sand, but adore sea air and denial.
Sanur Beach is perfect because it has a paved promenade. You can do the sunrise walk, hold a coffee, and pretend your life is a montage without sinking ankle-first into childhood trauma
(origin story: unknown; suspect: sand).
Snack report: jagung bakar, my beloved
Street cart, charcoal smoke, salt/sambal/butter options, jagung bakar (grilled corn) is the official taste of coastal procrastination.
Pro tip: ask for “nggak terlalu manis” if the sweet glaze starts cosplaying as dessert.
A Balinese dish I cannot name (and will think about forever)
Had a plate of something local: spicy, fragrant, excellent, refuses to identify itself.
Could be your grandma’s recipe; could be lawar, gerang, or a dream sequence.
If you know, tell me. I’ll thank you with emojis and loyalty.
The “giant diamond” that isn’t
Found a dramatic, glassy structure thought I’d discovered wealth.
It’s… a seaside wedding chapel. Gorgeous for photos, catastrophic for my commitment issues.
If you’re into beach weddings, congrats.
I’ll be over there, marrying a coconut.
Sanur mini-guide (for fellow avoidant romantics)
- Come early (sunrise in Sanur is smug and beautiful).
- Walk the promenade (no sand drama, maximum breeze).
- Snack local (jagung bakar, iced tea, mystery lunch).
- Photo spots: boats, the pier, chapel-that-is-not-a-diamond.
- Footwear: sneakers for the path, sandals for “maybe I’ll touch the sea” moments.
- June checklist: breathe, pass, hydrate, pretend I’m fine.
Sanur helps. Even if I still don’t like sand.
If you’ve tried that mystery Balinese dish in Sanur, drop the name!
Save a girl from forever calling it “the one that got away."
