Famima Snack Review: Mentai-Man, Tsukune Skewer, and Why “Not Picky” Might Be a Red Flag (For Me)
12:55 PMFamima Mentai-Man & Tsukune Review, Nikuman/Bakpao, Onigiri, Pizza-Man (Indonesia)
I had a “light snack” from Famima (FamilyMart) and discovered something about myself: I’m not picky… I’m adaptive.
Which is cute until you realize I’ll force myself to like things out of habit.
Exhibit A: natto. I hated it, then ate it daily like exposure therapy, and now I can eat it without rice.
Yes, I’m proud.
No, I don’t recommend this method for sauces with a personality.
Lately I’m wondering if not being picky is actually me overriding my preferences. When people ask my favorite food, I say, “I can eat anything.”
Translation: my brain runs on complicated mode and refuses to file the paperwork.
So here’s my experiment: describe what I eat, honestly, like I’m building a feelings map for my mouth. Starting with tonight’s Famima run.
What I Tried at Famima (Indonesia)
- Nikuman (Bakpao) & Pizza-man
Verdict: I’m actually more of a pizza-man girl than nikuman. But I still enjoy bakpao when it’s soft and steamy like a therapy session for carbs.
Why: Pizza-man = dopamine in a bun.
Nikuman = reliable, gentle hug. Both are fine; pizza-man just flirts harder. - Mentai-Man (I forgot the exact name, forgive me)
Verdict: Not a fan.
Notes: I don’t like mentai onigiri either, so the mentai-man never stood a chance.
The only mentai I consistently love is Sushi Tei’s mentai sushi. They do it rich without tasting heavy or fishy.
Most convenience-store mentai feels like someone whispered “mayo” into a microphone and called it a day. - 鳥つくね串 : Tsukune Skewer (Chicken Meatball on a Stick)
Why I bought it: My Chinese friend eats this all the time and it smells amazing. After a month of inhaling the aroma like a criminal, I caved.
Verdict: Weird for me. Not terrible, just not my texture/flavor profile. I don’t think I’ll buy it again for a while. (I still finished it because I’m loyal to sunk costs.)
Am I Picky or Just Programmable?
I’ll tolerate a food until it becomes familiar and then call it “my thing.” That’s efficient, but maybe it hides what I actually like. So for once, here’s a preference with boundaries:
Yes: Pizza-man, soft nikuman/bakpao, Sushi Tei’s mentai.
No (for now): Famima mentai-man, mentai onigiri, and tsukune skewer.
Progress. See? Feelings. In public.
FAQ (because Google loves boundaries)
- Is Famima’s mentai-man good?
If you already like mentai onigiri, probably yes. If mentai’s hit-or-miss for you, skip it. - Nikuman or pizza-man?
Pizza-man if you want instant joy; nikuman/bakpao if you want calm. - Is tsukune worth it?
Texture people will debate this forever. If you like slightly bouncy, glazed chicken meatballs, go for it. If you don’t, choose something crispier.
