I tried Japan spicy chicken mcnuggets!

12:15 AM

I'm Japanese Indonesian, one-plus year in Japan.

And yes, I’ve been craving real spice the whole time.

You can hunt chili here, but it’s a side quest.

My monthly coping mechanism is CoCo Ichibanya on dangerous levels. So when McDonald’s Japan dropped a limited Spicy Chicken McNuggets, my curiosity radar started breakdancing.

The Pitch (in my very medium Japanese)

The ads basically say these nuggets will K.O. you with heat. Challenge accepted.

They come with two limited sauces:

Sour Cream Onion (Extra Kind)

The idea: it “penetrates” the spiciness and calms it down. If you’re kind to tongues (or your friends), get this.

Extra Spicy Sauce (Really Spicy)
The idea: make your nugget even spicier than the base.

Reality Check (from a chili-raised mouth)
  1. Spice level: …not spicy.
Even with the Extra Spicy dip, my taste buds filed “mild inconvenience” at best. Set expectations to “pep talk,” not “fire alarm.”

it's not spicy but i think i like it better than the usual nugget. I'll rate 7/10 because it's not spicy

  2. Flavor: actually nice.
The nugget itself tastes better than the regular to me. Light heat, good crunch, more personality.

  3. Extra Spicy Sauce is my pick: tangy, slightly smoky, adds excitement.

Sour Cream Onion is friendly and creamy; great if you like cooling dips (or want to share with mortals).

Rating: 8/10 (I like the taste; minus points because the “spicy” didn’t show up to its own promo.)

I got 5 pieces for around ¥200 (promo price at the time).

Who Will Like These?
  • People who want flavor without pain
  • Spice beginners, kids at heart. coworkers who say sambal is “adventurous”
  • Me, apparently....
because it’s tasty even if my chili soul is unsupervised
Who Won’t?
  • Indonesians who brings a bottle of saus sambal inside their bag.
  • Anyone expecting “ghost pepper on a weekday” energy
Quick Tips
  • Get both sauces if you’re splitting! Duality keeps the peace.
  • If you need real heat, pair with your own chili oil/powder. (I won’t tell Ronald.)
  • Limited items: If you’re curious, go now and philosophize later.

somehow still hungry after all that? same. that’s not hunger.

That’s grief for chilies
