Yoshinoya in Surabaya: Galaxy Mall Queue, Beef Bowl Math, and Gacha for the Inner Child

1:50 AM

I didn’t plan a 2024 grand tour, but I did score a homecoming to Surabaya. Proof that blessings sometimes wear mall lighting.

Mission one: Yoshinoya finally opened here (Galaxy Mall + Tunjungan Plaza food court).
My inner Tokyo exile: vibrating.

Locations & crowd intel
Where: Galaxy Mall (spacious) and TP food court.
When: Even months after opening, there’s often a queue. Go off-peak (late afternoon) if you don’t want to socialize with a stanchion.

What I ordered (and why my calculator cried)

🧅 Original Beef Bowl, small bowl (~IDR25k)

Thin-sliced beef + onions, classic soy-sweet broth. Comfort in a bowl, no plot twist.
Tip: Get ocha, it’s free flow, because hydration is a lifestyle.

🔥 Yakiniku Beef Bowl, large bowl (~IDR30k)

Smokier, a little sweeter, the one I keep “accidentally” ordering.
Portion still feels modest if you’re a certified hungry person.

Calorie brain says: beef bowls are not shy. If you’re trying a 1,200 kcal day, treat Yoshinoya like a main event, not a snack.

(Check the official menu for exact numbers, I don’t fight on empty.)

Tiny joys
  • Their blue patterned bowl triggered my Daiso instincts.
  • Gacha-gacha by the counter = childhood unlocked. (Yes, I spun. No, you can’t judge me.)

Pros & cons (speed run)

Pros
  • 🍚 Fast comfort food with predictable flavor
  • 💧 Free-flow ocha (bless)
  • 🏬 Two central locations (Galaxy Mall & TP)
  • 🧸 Gacha for serotonin

Cons
  • ⏳ Queues at peak hours
  • 🥄 “Large” can still feel light if you’re ravenous
  • 💸 Add-ons tip the bill upward if you chase fullness

Order like you meant to be there
  • Craving classic? Original Beef (small) + ocha.
  • Want extra flavor? Yakiniku (large), then accept you may want add-ons.
  • Counting bites? Pair a small bowl with salad/miso so your willpower has a friend.

happy yoshinoya! xx
